On 21 October 2019, the Opening Ceremony of the 2019 ASEAN Plus Three (China, Japan and the Republic of Korea) Training Programme on Understanding China was held at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU).
Mr. Yan Guohua, Vice President of BFSU, Mr. Myo Thant Pe, Ambassador of Myanmar to China, Mr. Pham Trung Nghia, Counsellor of the Embassy of Vietnam in China, Director Ms. Kong Roatlomang and Deputy Director Ms. Zhou Hui of Education, Culture and Tourism Division of ASEAN-China Centre, Mr. Liu Jie, Vice President of the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP), as well as representatives from the Ministry of Education of China, embassies of ASEAN countries in China and 20 programme participants from ASEAN Member States, Japan and Korea attended the opening ceremony.
Vice President Yan Guohua delivered an opening address to welcome all the attendees of the opening ceremony. Yan said that the Programme aims to promote a better understanding of China among diplomats and government officials from ASEAN Member States as well as Japan and Korea, by offering intensive and comprehensive training courses on China’s political system, economy, diplomacy, education and culture, as well as scholar-led excursions to government institutions, hi-tech enterprises and historical and cultural sites in China. He expressed firm support on behalf of BFSU to make this year’s programme a success.
Director Kong Roatlomang highly commended the programme which provides all participants with a golden opportunity to understand the history, people, diverse cultures, dynamic economy and society among other fascinating aspects of China. She called on all participants to engage in in-depth exchanges to fulfill the role of envoys of friendship among ASEAN, China, Japan and Korea.
Counsellor Pham Trung Nghia, Vice President Liu Jie, Professor Li Xuetao, representative of programme experts and Ms. Soe Sandi Zaw, representative of programme participants delivered remarks. All expressed willingness to work closely together to make the programme a rewarding experience and contribute to the APT Mechanism, which benefits the people of the region and beyond.
The 2019 ASEAN plus Three Training Programme on Understanding China is hosted by the Ministry of Education of China and organized by BFSU. Lasting from 20 October to 9 November 2019, the programme will be carried out in Beijing, Qufu, Shandong and Shanghai.
