On 8 December 2024, Secretary General Shi Zhongjun of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) met with Union Minister Dr. Thet Thet Khine for Hotels and Tourism of Myanmar in Yangon.
Shi Zhongjun expressed appreciation to Union Minister Thet Thet Khine for inviting him to attend the opening ceremony of the 5th National Sports Festival of Myanmar to be held in Nay Pyi Taw. He stressed that, with Myanmar's natural beauty, time-honored culture and rich tourism resources, Myanmar and China enjoy great potential of conducting cultural and tourism cooperation. In the context of the 2025 ASEAN-China Year of People-to-people Exchanges and the 75th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Myanmar, the ACC will continue to promote various tourism cooperation with Myanmar, carry out promotion for tourism destinations and the related investment opportunities in China, and strengthen Chinese language training for Myanmar tourism practitioners, so as to help the Chinese people better understand Myanmar and contribute to the sustainable development of Myanmar's tourism industries.
Thet Thet Khine thanked the ACC for rendering support to the upcoming National Sports Festival. She highlighted that the recovery and revitalization of tourism industries are of great significance to Myanmar's economic growth and the well-beings of its people. The Myanmar side looks forward to building signature tourism destinations which will better present a culturally rich, charming and safe Myanmar. The Ministry hopes to further draw on the ACC’s resources to create a more comfortable, reliable and convenient sightseeing and leisure environment for foreign visitors, thus further contributing to the long-term growth of Myanmar's tourism sector.
On 9 December, Secretary General Shi Zhongjun also met Deputy Minister U Phyo Zaw Soe and Permanent Secretary U Hlaing Oo for Hotels and Tourism in Nay Pyi Taw for in-depth discussion on delivering concrete projects of tourism cooperation between the ACC and the Ministry in the foreseeable future.
On the evening of the same day, Secretary General Shi Zhongjun was invited to attend the 5th National Sports Festival of Myanmar.
