Shi Zhongjun Meets Union Minister U Min Naung for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation of Myanmar

On 9 December 2024, Secretary General Shi Zhongjun of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), met with Union Minister U Min Naung for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation of Myanmar in Nay Pyi Taw.

Shi Zhongjun once again thanked Minister Min Naung for gracing the ASEAN-Henan Cooperation Conference on Food and Agriculture held in Zhengzhou in November. He underlined that the Conference provided a good opportunity for China to expand agricultural cooperation with Myanmar and other ASEAN Member States (AMS). Looking ahead, the ACC will be working toward building an integrated platform to facilitate the whole-process agricultural cooperation, covering grain breeding, planting, machinery, storage, processing and trading, so as to refine the quality of ASEAN-China food and agricultural cooperation. The ACC stands ready to maintain closer communication and cooperation with the Ministry, and motivate cooperation resources in China to enhance cooperation in such areas of Myanmar’s concern as quality breeding, trade in agricultural produce, trade in livestock and fishery products, agriculture-related machinery and science-upgraded cultivation, aiming at reaping in early harvests in the near future. 

U Min Naung commended the ACC for convening the successful ASEAN-Henan Cooperation Conference on Food and Agriculture, and expressed his admiration in witnessing China’s great achievements in securing a modernized agriculture. He stressed that Myanmar attaches great importance to cooperation with China and other ASEAN countries in agriculture, livestock and fishery, and looks forward to exporting more edible oil, cotton, beef and cultivated seafood. The Ministry will draw on the ACC’s platform and resources for attracting more Chinese agriculture-related enterprises and experts to Myanmar for sci-tech research, investment, training and exchanges, so as to add strength to Myanmar's agricultural modernization and sustainable development, thus better contributing to Myanmar's national development, economic growth and well-beings of its people.
